In this sexy, suspenseful New Adult novel, a young woman hiding from her criminal past is taken captive by her ex-boyfriend, the ultimate bad boy.
Evie is about to embark on the perfect life. Beautiful, poised, and engaged to a rising business star, she fits the part of trophy wife perfectly, except for one thing: her entire identity is a lie.
Five years ago she created a new identity for herself, but it all crashes back when something she witnessed years ago comes back to haunt her. Now she’s in danger of losing more than her social status.
Determined to protect the careful life she’s built for herself, Evie doesn’t want anything to do with Riley, the criminal for hire who broke her heart years ago. But Riley has other ideas. He’s never forgotten Evie, and to protect her, he steals her away. Hidden from the world, sparks begin to fly as old memories resurface and their passion reignites.
Exposed is the second book in the Captive series, it is the story of Evie and Riley. Riley, the younger brother of Gage from Captive, and Evie the girl that Riley thought was gone from his life forever. The story starts off with Evie, now known as Genevieve at a party with her Fiancé Eric. Things seems pretty good for Evie as she lives in a huge mansion, is engaged to a lawyer who is on the career path to become a Senator, but not all is what it seems. Evie, or Gen as Eric calls her, is jumpy and full of anxiety. She has a past that she’s run from and hidden from Eric. However, all that changes one night while Eric is away in London.
Riley is still part of the Crew that Gage got out of in Captive. His part of the story starts out with him coming home from a job and getting a phone call from Gage. With the information Gage gives him, his whole world is turned upside down, the girl he thought he’d never see again, is suddenly alive and in need of his help, as his boss Max is desperately trying to find Evie. This sets Riley in motion and suddenly he is back in Evie’s life and doing whatever he can to keep the girl he used to love safe.
As Riley does what he can to protect Evie, they reconnect on a baser level, a level that gives Evie the control she prefers in the bedroom. But after Evie has an anxiety attach she is forced to tell Riley what happened to her in her youth that made her not want to go home. All of this goes on while they try and find a way to turn the tables on the people that are coming after Evie.
What I really liked about this story was that it starts after Captive ends, and while we see Gage and Madison, the story is not about them, they appear and are secondary characters to Riley and Evie.
Evie: What I liked about her character was that she was not written as a damsel in distress. She may be in trouble and have a past she doesn’t want to talk about, but she never appeared weak to me. Even with the mysteries of her past, as in what happened in her childhood, and the reason she left in the first place, she still seems like someone who doesn’t take things lying down.
Riley: What I liked most about Riley was that he wasn’t cocky. He was written in a way that made him likeable, but still with the edge of being a bad boy. You can see from the beginning how much he still cares about Evie and would do everything in his power to keep her safe.
The chapters of the story alternate between Evie and Riley giving us each of their point of views as we move through the story. Often times this is something that can get annoying, but since there are only two main characters it was easy to keep up with the story as they change point of view.
I also appreciated that the author did not draw out the telling of Evie’s past, or even why someone was after her. While it is not action packed and fight after fight right from the beginning, the story is told in such a way that we get to see an underlying story of two people who have a strong bond that was not really broken when one of them disappeared. We see a man who will fight with his life to keep the women he loved safe no matter the cost.

Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before deciding to take her storytelling in a different direction and reconnect with her first love: writing. When she’s not pounding away at the keyboard, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her husband and two children, and, yes, she considers forty degrees to be hoodie weather. Her home is the setting for frequent dance parties, Lego battles, and more laughter than she thought possible.(From authors website)
